PLYMOUTH – It had to end, and it did. The longest losing streak in Warsaw’s storied girls basketball history came to a close Saturday night as the Lady Tigers defeated Plymouth 51-39 Saturday night.

A 16-5 Warsaw advantage on the scoreboard in the second quarter gave the visitors some space to work. Warsaw also won the battle of the boards 27-16, turning nine offensive rebounds into nine key points.

The Lady Tigers were exceptional from the floor, hitting 15 of 29 shots (52 percent) while Plymouth shot south of 32 percent, making just 11 of 35 attempts.

The game was not the cleanest, with both teams combining for 49 turnovers.

Warsaw did a job on Plymouth’s top scorer, Alli Andrews, who scored just two points before fouling out. Andrews came into the game averaging 11.6 points per contest through the teams first 10 games. Nicole Horvath, Plymouth’s second leading scorer, had just eight points. Halle Reichard would lead Plymouth with 15 points.

Dayton Groninger paced Warsaw with 15 points, nine rebounds and 5 steals. Kacy Bragg had her biggest game of the season, the freshman notching 10 points, five boards, four steals and two blocks. Maddie Graham added eight points and five rebounds.

The junior varsity game went to Plymouth in a 26-24 final score. Stats were not provided.

Warsaw, which currently boasts of the toughest schedule in the state with an opponents record of 86-17, moves to 1-9 overall and 1-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Suffering its fourth straight loss, Plymouth drops to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in the NLC. Warsaw will play its fourth straight game on the road Tuesday at Columbia City while Plymouth will also work Tuesday night at home against John Glenn.
