Eagles Edge Past Vikings
AKRON – Ignas Masiulionis was just too much for Tippecanoe Valley to overcome Tuesday night.
The Culver Academies junior guard poured in 30 points as the Eagles nipped the host Vikings 50-48 in boys basketball action.
The Eagles outscored the Vikings 16-11 in the final period to erase a three-point deficit for the close win.
Masiulionis, a 6-2 junior, hit 10-16 shots from the field, including 7-13 from 3-point range, in the win.
Neil Clampitt had a huge offensive game of his own for the Vikings. Clampittt tossed in 25 points as he hit 10-18 field goal attempts, including 3-8 from distance.
Culver Academies led 16-9 after the opening period and 28-27 at halftime. The Vikings outscored the Eagles 10-6 in the third period to take a 37-34 lead heading into the final frame.
Valley shot 18-42 overall from the field, including 6-15 from deep. The hosts were 6-7 from the free throw line and had just five turnovers.
The Eagles went 18-30 from the field, including a huge 10-20 from distance. CMA was 4-7 from the line and finished the contest with 11 turnovers.
Trevor Neeley had nine points for the Vikings. Alec Craig scored five points and Jarod Duzenbery had five points and a team-high four rebounds. Gavin Bussard dished out six assists for Valley.
Valley, now 1-3, will host John Glenn Saturday night. Culver Academy (1-2) hosts Portage Saturday night.
