GOSHEN — Nutrition is always a hot topic when it comes to dairy cattle farmers. With the fluctuation in feed prices, milk prices, the weather and other variables dairy producers are always seeking ways to improve their strategies on feeding their cattle.
Purdue Extension Elkhart County will be hosting a dairy nutrition update from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the ECCC-Martin Room on the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds located at 17746 CR 34, Goshen.
This year’s Nutrition Update will include:
- Dr. Noah Litherland, Vita Plus Corporation “ Steps toward a More Mature GI Tract in your Heifer Calves”
- Dr. Katy Proudfoot, The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine “Cow Comfort for the Transition Cow”
- Dr. Maurice Eastridge, The Ohio State University, “Managing Feed Costs”
- Brittany Casperson, Purdue University, Department of Animal Science, Graduate Student, “Making Something Out of Nothing: Stretching Your Forage Supply”
- Dr. Randy Shaver, University of Wisconsin, “What’s New with Corn Silage ‘King of Forages?’”
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the speakers and ask nutritional questions. The total cost of the workshop is $15 per a person and will include lunch and handouts.
