Russell Out, Prosise Doubtful For Irish
SOUTH BEND – The injury list continues to get longer for the Notre Dame football team.
Cornerback KeiVarae Russell is out while and running back CJ Prosise is doubtful for Notre Dame’s regular season finale at Stanford next Saturday night.
The No. 4 Irish struggled in 19-16 win over Boston College Saturday night at Fenway Park in Boston and lost both star players in the process.
Russell suffered a stress fracture to his right tibia late in the game and was slated to have surgery on Sunday. His only chance to return this season would be if Notre Dame made it all the way to the national title game, Irish Coach Brian Kelly said. Russell is estimated to be out 6-8 weeks.
Kelly says Prosise is doubtful for Saturday’s game at Stanford with a high ankle sprain suffered in the second quarter when he was rolled up on a rushing play. It was Prosise’s first game back since suffering a concussion two weeks earlier against Pittsburgh.
Kelly says there he expects Prosise to be back for the post-season.
Notre Dame did receive some good news on the injury front on Sunday. Nose guard Daniel Cage will be back for the Stanford game after missing the last two games because of a concussion.
Notre Dame, now 10-1, heads to Stanford for the regular season finale next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Stanford, ranked No. 13, improved to 9-2 with a 35-22 win over California on Saturday.
