Rohrer Sixth At NCAA Championships
LOUISVILLE — Mishawaka High School graduate Anna Rohrer completed her freshman year in style, finishing sixth at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Rohrer earned All-American honors by posting a time of 19:59 in her first national final event for the Fighting Irish.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame senior Molly Seidel won her second national championship of 2015, posting a time of 19:28 for the 6K event.
Seidel, a native of Hartland, Wis., became Notre Dame’s first individual national championship in women’s history last spring when she won the 10,000-meter event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Seidel and Rohrer finished one-two at both the ACC Championships and NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships. Rohrer ran with the front pack for much of the race, before coming home sixth.
“Anna (Rohrer) was up there for a long time,” Seidel said. “Having her there is just such a source of strength. She’s my training partner and run together in all our workouts. You want as many teammates up in the front with you as possible.”
The No. 15 ranked Irish women’s team finished in eighth place in the final team standings. No. 1 New Mexico claimed the national championship.
