Indiana’s October Employment Numbers

INDIANA — At 4.4 percent, the Hoosier unemployment rate is at its lowest level since August of 2001.

WorkOne, a business located in northern Indiana dedicated to connecting employers with potential workers, has compiled national data to formulate the following statistics:

  • Indiana is now 12,800 private sector jobs above the March 2000 peak employment levels.
  • Indiana’s unemployment rate decrease of minus 6.4 percent from July, 2009, the low point of employment, and minus 4 percent since January 2013. Both rank second in the U.S.
  • Indiana’s unemployment rate decrease of minus 1.4 percent over the past year ranks third in the U.S.
  • The Hoosier labor force has grown by 90,000 individuals since January 2013, which leads the midwest.
  • Indiana’s labor force participation rate has outperformed the national average for 18 months in a row. Indiana’s rate increased to 63.6 percent from 62.4 percent.
  • Since July 2009, Indiana has added 302,200 private sector jobs, which ranks 12th in the nation.
  • Indiana’s manufacturing growth in October ranked second in the U.S.
  • The Hoosier State has also added the second most manufacturing jobs in the U.S. since July 2009, at a rate
    that ranks second in the nation.
  • Indiana has grown the third most manufacturing jobs in the U.S. over the past year.
  • Indiana continues to have the highest concentration of private sector manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
  • The Hoosier State ranked 10th in the nation in private, educational and health jobs added over 2,900 in October, and has added the eighth most over the past year, over 17,600.
  • Indiana has added 19,100 trade, transportation and utilities jobs over the past year, which ranks fifth in the nation, at a rate of plus 3.3 percent, which ranks third in the U.S.
