Area Football Trio Eye Semistate Play

IHSAA SportsA trio of area high school football teams will be in search of semistate championships come Friday night.

The Three Rivers Conference will be represented by Northfield. The Norsemen, who are 8-5, will host undefeated Lafayette Central Catholic in a Class 1-A semistate contest at 7 p.m. Northfield is 12-1 on the field this season (with just a loss to Whitko), but had to forfeit four wins due to using an ineligible player.

The winner of the Northfield-LCC game will play either North Vermillion or Linton-Stockton in the Class 1-A state championship game on Nov. 27 at 12 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Northern Indiana Conference still has three teams in the state tournament series. South Bend St. Joseph (8-5) will host Fort Wayne Dwenger (12-1) Friday night in a Class 4-A semistate clash at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face Roncalli or East Central in the Class 4-A state title game on Nov. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Mishawaka Marian (10-3) will play host to West Lafayette (12-1) Friday night in a Class 3-A semistate contest at 7:30 p.m.. The winner of that game will meet Chatard or Gibson Southern in the Class 3-A state championship game on Nov. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Penn, also members of the NIC, claimed a Class 6-A semistate title last Friday night with a home win over Carmel. The Kingsmen (12-1) will face Center Grove (13-0) in the Class 6-A state championship game on Nov. 28 at 7:05 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
