LCA Ladies Post Big Hoops Win
WINONA LAKE – Make it two wins in a row to start the season for the Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball team.
The host Cougars used a huge second quarter Friday night in routing South Bend Career Academy by a 56-13 final.
LCA led 19-10 after the opening period of play before outscoring their guests 20-0 in the second stanza to take a 39-10 halftime lead. The Cougars, under first-year coach Allison Kauffman, then held SBCA to just three points in the final half.
Hannah Delp poured in 20 points to lead the way for the winners.
Rachel Sand netted 14 points to go with six rebounds for LCA. Carissa Urschalitz added 11 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Brady Gross came up with seven points and eight rebounds for the Cougars and Melissa Goss finished with four points.
LCA improves to 2-0 on the season, while SBCA drops to 0-3.
LCA hosts North Miami Saturday night. SBCA plays at South Bend Clay on Tuesday night.
