S. Glenn Yoder, 80, of Goshen passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing where he had been a resident since December 2013.

He was born April 17, 1935, in Porter County to Harold C. and Sadie M. (Miller) Yoder. On Aug. 6, 1961, he married Doris Detrow at Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen.

She survives, along with a daughter: JoAnn (Ben) Neff, Goshen; two grandchildren: Abbey and Brock Neff; two sisters: Carolyn Leichty, Goshen; and Marilyn (Michael) Zellinger, Green Valley, Ariz.; and a brother: Don (Beth) Yoder, Syracuse.

A 1953 graduate of New Paris High School, Glenn attended Goshen College. He served two years of 1-W service at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Glenn resided in Elkhart County for most of his life. For 50 years he was involved with the sales and installation of building materials, owning and operating the Millersburg Lumber Co. and then S G and D Sales until his retirement.

Glenn had many interests which he pursued with vigor and determination. He loved golfing, hunting, fishing, genealogical research, and traveling. He was a Life Member of the NRA and hunted frequently in Idaho and Colorado. He also hunted in Alaska, Canada and Zimbabwe. He had visited all 50 states, most Canadian provinces, and 24 countries around the world.

A 36 year member of the Millersburg Lions Club, Glenn was recognized for selling large quantities of citrus fruit and barbecued chicken for the club’s fundraisers. He was deeply devoted to Lions and service to those in need. As Governor of District 25-G in 1987-88, he received the 100% Governor’s Award. He then served three years as the Lions State Membership chair assisting Lions forming a large number of new clubs in Indiana. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the recipient of three prestigious Presidential Awards from Lions International, and many other commendations. A member of Lions International Pin Traders Club, he collected, designed and sold many Lions trading pins and exchanged them with Lions worldwide.

Glenn was a great storyteller. Friends and relatives enjoyed hearing him tell hilarious stories of his “growing up years” with his siblings on the Syracuse family dairy farm. He was very proud of his own family, and formed a special bond with JoAnn over fishing, photography, and 4-H projects. A kid at heart, Glenn loved spending active time with his grandchildren playing catch and Wiffle ball, and building blocks, and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren as they participate in their many activities.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The Lions Club Service will begin immediately following at noon, Saturday. A second memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at College Mennonite Church, Goshen where Glenn was a member. Rev. Pamela Yoder will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to IU Health Goshen Home Care and Hospice or the Millersburg Lions Club.

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. According to Glenn’s wishes cremation will take place.
