Now that summer is over and the winter months are right around the corner it’s a great time to catch up on your movie watching. The Warsaw Community Public Library has quite a few recently released films for your viewing pleasure. Here are some I highly recommend.
“San Andreas” is probably the best disaster movie I’ve seen lately. Think of it as every disaster movie rolled into one. The title of course lets the viewer know that an enormous earthquake is most likely going to happen. Dwayne Johnson, who plays the lead, is solid. The visuals and CGI will not disappoint! If you love movies like “The Day After Tomorrow,” or “2012,” “San Andreas” is for you.
America’s sweetheart, Melissa McCarthy, has made quite a name for herself the past few years. Her recently released film “Spy” does not disappoint and is hilariously funny. It is a comedy which spoofs the typical James Bond spy movie. While McCarthy’s acting is spot on, the real winner of “Spy” is Jason Statham. He nails it with his hilarious parody of his usual super-macho personae. There is quite a bit bad language so it’s not for everyone. If you like deep belly laughs take it home and enjoy.
My youngest son highly recommended I watch the latest installment of the Fast and Furious series “Furious 7.” Not only are there great car scenes, death defying stunts and hot chicks, but there is also heart and emotion. These characters we have followed in this franchise have really convinced us they are family. Dare they be compared to the Seven Samurai? The movie was going to be sad no matter, due to the untimely death of Paul Walker. The ending was a beautiful swan song for not only Walker’s character but Walker himself. Anyone would get teary-eyed. I recommend it as well.
Apparently “They’re back” and maybe they shouldn’t have returned. Just because you can remake a classic movie doesn’t mean you should. The original “Poltergeist,” made in 1982, became the prototype for the next 30 years of haunted house movies. The new version isn’t completely terrible, it just doesn’t hold up to the original. Sam Rockwell is in it, for that reason alone I’d recommend it.
