LIGONIER – This past season for the Wawasee volleyball team was like removing a bandage, if one were to slowly off a bandage. The Warriors lost their coach due to health reasons just 12 games into the season leaving Ryan Edgar to take over a 1-11 squad.

The unique journey that Wawasee had this season finally drew to a close Saturday afternoon in the semi-finals of the West Noble Sectional as the host Chargers eliminated Wawasee with a 3-0 sweep.

“This matchup we had here, we played really hard in those first two games,” Edgar began.”Those might be the best two games we’ve played this year.”

The Warriors came out with plenty of energy in that opening game but were unable to hold a lead in an entertaining, back and forth contest before ultimately falling 25-22. The second game saw much of the same but West Noble created more of a gap to take a 25-17 decision. Then came the third game…

It was a 5-4 game before West Noble was awarded a point due to a roster error by Wawasee. West Noble took the 6-4 lead and went on a tear to win 25-5.

“That third game kind of summed up our season,” Edgar said. “We gave up some points and hung our heads. I hate to say that they were ready to be done, but it’s been a rough season and these girls were tired of the losing and just kind of ready to move on.

“The biggest thing is that I saw a lot of heart of some of these players. I saw some leadership out of a few girls that I didn’t expect to see it from. Moving forward these girls just need to come together as a group and that’s something they’re still working on.”

Wawasee finishes the season at 3-26. West Noble will face NorthWood for the sectional title.

NorthWood defeated 11-time defending sectional champion Fairfield 3-2 in the morning game.
