Concannon, Goshen Advance To State Semis

Goshen Redskins SportsINDIANAPOLIS – Goshen’s No. 1 doubles team and Culver Academy’s ace will both be playing for a state championship Saturday after wins in Friday’s IHSAA Boys Tennis State Quarterfinals at Park Tudor High School.

The Goshen duo of Luke Rush and Logan Troyer kept its outstanding season going with a 6-4, 6-2 over Penn’s Thomas Gifford and Tim Porsche. The Goshen tandem move to 19-1 on the season and will play Fort Wayne Carroll’s Ryan Van Wyngarden and Jimiroqua Stanchin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the state semi-finals.  Penn bows out after a 17-3 season. Carroll moved to the semis with a 7-5, 7-5 win against Munster.

The other doubles matchup will feature Indianapolis North Central (14-1) against Bloomington North (19-1). Winners will meet at 2 p.m. for the state doubles championship.

In No. 1 singles quarterfinal action, Culver Academy’s Sam Concannon remained undefeated after taking down Crown Point’s Bryce Bonin 6-1, 6-3. Concannon, now 19-0 this season, will meet Leo’s Eli Steiner (17-3), who was a 6-3, 6-3 winner against Franklin Community’s Noah Roberts.

In the other semi-final will be Indianapolis North Central’s Steve Christie (17-1) against Richmond’s Eric Hollingsworth (21-0). Winners from the 10 a.m. semi-finals will meet at 2 p.m. for the state singles championship.
