Nyikos, FrankFrank E. Nyikos, 83, residing in Goshen and formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 7:54 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen. He was born June 13, 1932, in South Bend to the late John K. and Margaret (Retek) Nyikos. Frank moved to the Syracuse area in 1955, and remained a resident there until seven months ago, when he moved to Goshen.

Frank served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Frank was a member of the VFW #1342 in Syracuse, American Legion #223 in Syracuse, Cromwell Lodge #705, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne as well as a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Elkhart.

Frank is survived by his children: Frank E. Nyikos Jr., Bloomington; Catherine A. Shankster, Cromwell; Mary M. Lowrey, Clunette; Jean L. Tarner, Milford; and Stephen K. Nyikos, Mishawaka; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings: Margaret Smith, Naples, Fla.; Lillian Buti, South Bend; Anita Bedford, South Bend; Alice May Miller, Fort Wayne; and John K. Nyikos Jr., Goshen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Frank will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, South Bend. Rev. Kevin Baughman will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1-2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home prior to services.
