NORTHERN INDIANA — The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a a special weather statement advising of the enhanced risk for fire danger this afternoon and into this evening. They advised there is an increased risk for grass, brush and field fires to spread out of control and burning is not recommended.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the middle to upper 60s while relative humidity values will drop into the 35-30 percent range. In addition, winds will strengthen to 20-25 miles per hour with gusts of 30-35 mph this afternoon. These weather factors combined with very dry fuel moisture such as grasses and crops could lead to small fires becoming out of control very quickly.
