SOUTH BEND — On Monday, Oct. 12 ABC57 received the Edward R. Murrow Award by the Radio Television Digital News Association. This award recognizes excellence in electric journalism. The station accepted the award on Monday, Oct. 12, during an award ceremony in New York City.

ABC57 News Director Aaron Ramey says, “This is such an honor to be recognized with an award that stands for excellence and integrity. That’s something the ABC57 News team holds in high regard.” The executive producer on the project, Kyle Fobe, ABC57 General Manager Jeff Guy and Ramey attended the awards ceremony.

The honor was for Feature Reporting for the moving story “Picture Perfect Memories.” This story was also recognized with a regional Emmy Award late last year. Ramey added, “While it’s an honor to be recognized for our storytelling, the real heroes are the Angel family who welcomed us into their lives to tell their story.” Picture Perfect Memories documents the heartbreaking, yet inspiring story of a mother who must deliver a baby knowing it will not survive. The family gave ABC57 News complete access to the delivery and baby Joshua’s funeral.

The Murrow Awards are named for the iconic journalist and broadcast innovator Edward R. Murrow. Since 1971, the RTDNA has been recognizing outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards.
