MILFORD — Make a beautiful fall luminary using a Mason jar and some other materials on Monday, Oct. 12, for Adult Craft Night at the Library.

A luminary is on display at the adult circulation desk, so stop by and take a look. It costs $8 to make and you need to register by 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Craft night begins at 6:30 p.m. and usually takes about an hour to complete. Anyone ages 18 and up are invited to register.

Lights Out at the Library

Mark your calendars for the most popular program the library offers: Lights Out at the Library! This year’s theme is “Have a graphic novel Halloween!” Tours through the library will be from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, the same hours of Milford’s trick or treat. This program is for all ages.

If you would like to donate some full size candy bars to the library to give as treats at the end of the tour, bring your donation to the adult circulation desk.

Super Librarian will greet you at the beginning of the tour. Small groups will stop at several stations set up in the library, each one promoting our graphic novel collections in the adult, teen and children’s departments. Admission is free. The tour takes about 15 minutes and children in costume get a treat at the end of the tour.

Lapsit

This week marks the start of infant lapsit. Lapsit is intended for babies, from infant through 36 months. Lapsit is at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday in October. This falls theme is apples! We will learn some finger plays, sing some songs such as “Way Up High In An Apple Tree,” and read a few books about apples. Join staff this Tuesday, Oct. 13 for our second week. If you have children who would like to be part of lapsit, you can call or come in and sign up at the desk in the Children’s Department.

Fall Story Time

Fall is here! Join staff for the second week of fall story time at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, or at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, as she talks about “whooooo” likes story time. Fall story time is a program for children ages 3-6. It’s a great way for children to meet new friends, develop listening skills, and be introduced to the library and all it has to offer.

Listen to staff read “I’m Not Cute” by Jonathan Allen, and “Bear’s New Friend” by Karma Wilson. After listening to stories, we will make an owl on a branch with our handprints. Parents, we will be using paint, so make sure that the children do not wear their Sunday best. After we make our owl pictures, we will make our owl moonpies for snack. If you have not registered your child, come into the library or call and get signed up.

Knitting Club

Knitting Club meets from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the teen area of the library. Bring a knitting project and get help from experienced knitters. Learn how to knit or continue working on a current project. See you Friday, Oct. 16.

Friends of the Library

Do you have lots of books sitting around, cluttering your house? Why not donate them to the library for others to buy and read? The friends of the library welcomes all your donations of gently-used books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and sheet music. Feel free to go through our collection and purchase a few things as well. All proceeds go back to the library.

The friends are also selling cloth book bags for $12. Come in and purchase a bag at the circulation desk upstairs and support your local library.

Classical Guitar Concert

Plan to attend the classical guitar concert scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26. Graduate student Scott Workman will be back. Workman is a graduate student at IU South Bend and will be completing his master’s degree in classical guitar performance in December. This performance is being done in preparation for his master’s recital, which will be at IUSB on Nov. 16.

The recital will feature music from all historical time periods, with works by Alonso Mudarra, Robert deVisee, J.S. Bach, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tarrega and Andrew York. The concert will be in the teen area of the library. Music lovers, don’t miss this great opportunity!
