WARSAW — When Kosciusko County Lake Patrol Officer, Ken Troutman, saw boaters in trouble, he was right there to assist.

This afternoon, Wednesday, Oct. 7, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators recognized Troutman for taking action in rescuing seven boaters when their boat sank. Troutman had signaled to the motorboat, which was traveling in an idle zone, to slow down. The boat’s operator attempted to make an abrupt stop and, when he did, the boat swamped.

Further attempts on the part of the operator caused the boat to capsize and sink. Troutman called for backup and, within minutes, Indiana Conservation Officers Jon Boyd and Dustin Whitehead were on the scene and all seven people were rescued.

The officers cited the boat’s driver for boating while intoxicated. Another individual, a minor, was cited for consumption of alcohol as a minor.

Boyd and Whitehead were previously recognized for the part they played in the rescue.
