SYRACUSE — Megan McClellan is talking about the 27 months she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Peace Corps is funded with federal tax dollars and is a positive way to have interaction between Americans and people in the world. A town in Niger, just north of Nigeria, asked for help with some projects in their community. Megan and Bob McClellan were sent to offer technical support in one of the poorest countries in the world. The region has become unstable so that the corps no longer sends volunteers to Niger.

The McClellans had a unique experience because few Peace Corps volunteers go as married couples. Their areas of expertise were in agricultural management and material resource management. McClellan has a PowerPoint presentation that precedes talking about topics that are of interest to the audience. Speaking at the Syracuse Library fulfills the third goal of the Peace Corps; exposing Americans to other peoples around the world. Seating for this free event is in the meeting room.
