NAPPANEE — Upcoming events at Nappanee Public Library:
Nappanee Center’s Fifth Annual Night at the Museum
Watch Nappanee history come alive when the lights go out at the Nappanee Center on Friday, Oct. 9. Night at the Museum is a production, now in its fifth year, presented by the library in partnership with the city’s historic preservation commission.
Visitors to the Center will be guided on flashlight tours through interactive vignettes with live actors portraying the parts of Nappanee citizens. The program will take place between 6-8 p.m. and set design will include historical items from the Nappanee Public Library’s Evelyn Lehman Culp Heritage Collection. Meet young cartoonist, Bill Holman and Nappanee’s onion field workers, hear stories about the great auditorium fire and a legendary panther hunt, and listen to Heritage Collection founder, Evelyn Lehman Culp, record oral histories.
Visitors can wait in line or get a ticket for a scheduled tour later that evening. For more information about this fun and free family event) call the library at (574) 773-7919, or go to www.nappaneelibrary.org
Study for High School Equivalency Diploma
Success is at your fingertips when you enroll in the High School Equivalency program offered by Horizon Education Alliance.
HEA Adult Education helps prepare students to take their high school equivalency exam at the library. Anyone who is 16 years or older can be a part of the program, provided they are no longer in school. They offer free computer-based instruction 24/7 that can either be done at regularly-scheduled times at the Library or at home.
All five subject areas of the HSE are covered in the curriculum, and coaches help students achieve the levels needed to pass the test. Students are very independent in the learning process; they pace themselves and determine how quickly they can take the test. In case you need face-to-face instruction, workshops are held throughout the year. We even offer a practice test to be sure you’re ready for the official exam.
Orientation sessions will be held at the library from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 12-13, 19-21. Students must attend a complete orientation cycle 18 hours to be enrolled in the program.
Once ready, students test at the Elkhart Area Career Center, Adult Basic Education office. The cost of the test is $90 and scholarships are available.
Begin your future now. Getting your HSE is the first step to reaching your career goals whatever they may be. Strengthen your reading, writing, and math skill, but more than that, strengthen your confidence in yourself by getting an HSE! Call (574) 215-7019 for more information. Success is at your fingertips.

WW2 Exhibit at Nappanee Center
