INDIANAPOLIS – The area is well represented once again this week in the Associated Press high school football polls.
Perennial power Penn and Plymouth are the two highest rated local squad. The Kingsmen (5-1) check in at No. 2 in the latest Class 6-A poll. The undefeated Rockies (6-0) sit at No. 2 in the Class 4-A poll again this week.
Mishawaka is ranked No. 9 in Class 5-A with Mishawaka Marian at No. 4 and Jimtown at No. 10 among Class 3-A teams. Northfield, members of the Three Rivers Conference, is at No. 8 in Class 1-A.
A slew of area teams are receiving votes this week as well. That list includes South Bend Adams and Concord in 5-A, East Noble, Northridge and South Bend Washington in 4-A, Winamac in 2-A and LaVille in 1-A.
Another team receiving votes this week in the Class 6-A poll is Merrillville. The Pirates are coached by former Warsaw and Ball State standout Brad Seiss, who is in his first season after previously coaching the past three seasons at Muncie Central High School. Merrillville is 4-2 overall with a four-game winning streak, including a 38-16 win over LaPorte last Friday night. The Pirates are tied atop the Duneland Conference standings with Lake Central at 4-0 and play at Valparaiso this Friday night.
