Bonnie Lou Tonkel
Bonnie Lou Tonkel, 72, Columbia City, passed away at 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. Born Dec. 16, 1942, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Betty (Cullers) Baker.
Bonnie attended Whitley County Schools and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1960. She then went on to beauty college and obtained her beautician’s license. Bonnie became the owner and operator of Looking Good Hair Salon in Columbia City. She enjoyed roller skating, bowling, sewing, and crocheting scarves and blankets for her family and friends.
Survivors include her sons: Cary Tonkel; Chad (Kari) Tonkel, both of Columbia City; grandchildren: Victoria “Tori” Tonkel; Cody Tonkel; Courtney Tonkel; Conner Tonkel; and Kolby Tonkel; all of Columbia City; brother: Richard “Dick” (Sandra “Sam”) Cullers, Greenwood; and niece: Lisa (David) Anderson, Indianapolis. Shew as preceded in death by her grandparents: Claude and Jesse Cullers; and mother: Betty Baker.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial contributions in memory of Bonnie may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or American Alzheimer’s Association.
