Goshen Claims NLC With Win

Warsaw SportsWARSAW – The offensive struggles for Warsaw continued Thursday night as defending state champion Goshen marched on to a 5-0 boys soccer win. The victory gives Goshen the Northern Lakes Conference title with a mark of 6-0-1, the third consecutive championship for the club.

Goshen (13-0-1 overall) had six different players find the net in Juan Castaneda, Marcos Hernandez, Alexis Martinez, Lucas Bontreger, Sebastian Flores, and Alejandro Rosales. Eduardo Pizana, Bontreger and Hernandez all had assists. Mason Short and Antonio Ledezma combined for five saves to pitch the shut out.

Goshen, ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 2-A, outshot Warsaw, 8-5, making all but two attempts count.

Warsaw (2-12, 0-6 NLC) has lost six straight matches, scoring just four goals in that stretch going back to Sept. 5.

The Goshen JV also shut out Warsaw by a 5-0 count. Goals scorers for the Redskins included Adolfo Villegas with a pair and solo tallies from Franco Hernandez, Ciro Aguar and Bryan Olvera. Ricardo Vargez, Olvera and Agular all had assists.

Warsaw will look to return to the win column Saturday when it travels to Wawasee.
