Charles Richard Shinn “Chuck”, 72, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Born on Aug. 22, 1943, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Paul and Catherine (King) Shinn.
Growing up in Northeast Indiana, Chuck graduated from Elmhurst High School with the class of 1961. After graduating, he entered the Air Force at Ohio’s Wright Patterson Air Force Base. It was there that Chuck started his family.
Chuck and his family found themselves back in Northeast Indiana after he was honorably discharged from the service in January of 1967. Putting the skills that he learned while serving our country to use, Chuck worked in industrial maintenance at Magnavox in Fort Wayne and later at King-Seeley in Kendallville. He also worked at Essex in Columbia City before retiring. He had lived in Columbia City since 2008 and was a member of the American Legion. He also loved to bowl and enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Survivors include his children: Paul (Kim) Shinn, Woodburn; Mark (Brittany) Shinn, Toledo, Ohio; Dianne Shinn, Spring Lake, N.C.; and Debbie (Bryant) Larimore, Lansing, Ks.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, Columbia City, with funeral to follow. Certified Funeral Celebrant, Sharon Brockhaus, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, immediately following the service with military honors performed by Whitley County Korean War Veterans’ Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions be given in Chuck’s name and directed toward Wounded Warrior Project with envelopes available at the funeral home.
