Triton Sports Wrap – Sept. 22
In a final tuneup before the Hoosier North Athletic Conference tournament, Triton took on Manchester Tuesday afternoon. The Squires weren’t in a giving mood, rather taking a 4-1 final in North Manchester.
In a matchup of fine players on the singles court, Manchester’s Max Karg brought it in a 6-0, 6-1 win against Gavin Eads at No. 1. Triton’s Mace Eads had similar success on the No. 2 singles court, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Spence Trick. Manchester’s Parker Wagoner won the No. 3 court by forfeit.
Manchester’s No. 1 doubles team of Noah Cain and Matthew Pegg continued its strong season with a love and love win against Dalton Bailey and Chase Butler. Heath Dierks and Luke Donathan also had a fine night by winning one and one against Keygan Moiser and Aaron Stichter at No. 2 doubles.
Manchester improves to 9-4 overall while Triton settles at 6-10.
Triton will take to the HNAC tournament Wednesday.
Lady Trojans Rally In Wild Win
Triton needed a big rally to grab its fourth HNAC win of the season in a 3-2 win at LaVille Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans won a back-and-forth game one, 25-22, then dropped the next two 25-20, 25-22 to the Lady Lancers. Taking game four 25-20, a race to 15 was in order for the fifth game, which Triton did in a 15-6 clincher.
Triton had its usual all-in effort from its roster. Six different players led in the major categories. Quinn Downing had 16 digs, Jaela Meister had 14 kills, Hannah Wanemacher had 21 assists, Emma Ross had five aces and Courtney Jennings and Brooklyn Bitting each had a block. Nicole Sechrist added seven kills and 13 digs.
The Triton JV won in three 25-19, 8-25, 15-12.
Triton moves to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the HNAC with a non-conference match at Argos set for Thursday.
