Lorraine R. Thomas, 90, Culver, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015.

Lorraine was born July 4, 1925, in Chicago, Ill. She was one of five children born to Edward and Agnes (Mottys) Pletka. Lorraine attended Culver Community High School. She fell in love and married Leroy Thomas on Nov. 5, 1943, at Leiters Ford. Together they raised five children. While Leroy was in the military serving his country, Lorraine worked for many different families around the lake in Culver to take care of the family. After the children were raised, she worked at the Culver Military Academy for 21 years in the bookstore.

Lorraine enjoyed playing cards and collected over 400 thimbles. She was a member of the Santa Ana United Methodist Church and their
United Methodist Women group.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter: Beverly (Nick) Knoerzer, Morocco; Joyce (Evan) Lowry, LaPorte; sons: Gregory Thomas, Kewanna; Kevin (Gwen) Thomas, Argos; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Kay Smith; two brothers; and two sisters.

A visitation with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Lorraine’s memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
