
SYRACUSE – Garrett, led by Drue Bodey and Maryland University recruit Taylor Smith, ran 4-0 to win Saturday’s Wawasee Volleyball Invitational.
Garrett defeated Tippecanoe Valley, Columbia City and Wabash in pool play then dispensed Bethany Christian in the final to win the title. The championship match went 22-25, 25-11, 15-9 in favor of the Railroaders. Bodey and Smith, as well as Bethany’s Darienne Maust, were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Whitko, led by All-Tournament Team selection Kaitlyn Reed, went 3-1 on the day to finish third overall. Whitko went 2-1 in pool play, beating Wawasee and Culver Academy and losing to Bethany Christian. Whitko would beat rival Columbia City 25-22, 25-22 in the third-place match. Whitko stats were not immediately released.
Wawasee went 2-2 on the day, picking up a pool win against the Academy then defeating Wabash 25-13, 25-21 in the fifth-place match. Leading the charge for the Lady Warriors was Hannah-Marie Lamle with 17 kills and six blocks. Taylor Mock had 27 assists, Seaquinn Bright had 14 kills and Becca Anderson compiled 10 aces. Lamle and Bright were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Tippecanoe Valley salvaged seventh place after beating the Academy in its final match of the day.
Abby Betten led the offense on the day for the Vikings with 31 kills in the four matches. Maddy Henninger totaled 59 assists and Lexi O’Connell 4.5 blocks. Shayleigh Shriver had three aces for the Vikings. Betten led the defense with 28 digs in the tournament.
Whitko (9-4-1) will come back to Wawasee Monday for a meeting with the Lady Warriors (3-15). Tippecanoe Valley (14-8) will host Northfield Thursday evening.
