Warsaw SportsLadies Continue Hot Start

The Warsaw girls soccer machine continued on Thursday at Columbia City, beating the hosts 7-3.

Anna Sullivan returned to the lineup and made an immediate impact, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the match. Sydney Weideman and Liz Van Wormer then scored goals within six minutes of each other to give the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes played.

Anna Grill made it 5-0 with a tally eight minutes before half as Warsaw were well on its way to its eleventh win of the season in as many matches.

Breck Jackson and Alyssa Atkins added second-half goals for Warsaw. Van Wormer was credited with a pair of assists and Weideman had a helper.

Rachel McClelland didn’t need to make a save in first half in her first-ever varsity goalkeeping start. Jasmine Cacahua made two saves in the second half in what was also her first varsity action. Regular starter Chloe Snow, who left Monday’s win against Fort Wayne Northrop with an injury, did not see the field Thursday.

The Warsaw JV also left the Whitley County seat with a win, 2-0, over City in a shortened match. Katiana Rodriguez scored both goals for Warsaw.

Warsaw will have the weekend off before visiting Fort Wayne Snider Monday.

Tigers Tame The Panthers

Warsaw hosted, and defeated, NorthWood Thursday in boys tennis in a 4-1 final.

Warsaw’s singles play was on point, as all three courts won in convincing straight sets. Justin Stout took care of No. 1 Court Clark in a three and one final, the same score as No. 2 Colton Lind posted against Cam Stillson. Andrew Gauger made quick work of Nate Nunemaker, one and one, at three singles.

No. 1 doubles duo Chris Herendeen and David Homme rolled for the Tigers, a one and two winner against Brock Beehler and Jared Hoffman. The Panther No. 2 doubles grouping of Brant Mast and Trevor Klotz took care of Hudson Snyder and Spencer Britton four and three.

Warsaw’s JV dominated NorthWood 9-1. Results are as follows:

Warsaw moves to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the NLC with its final matchup in conference left Monday at home against Concord. The JV are slated to play this weekend in the Wawasee JV Invite.

Tigers Score Big In Win

The Warsaw freshman football team posted a big win Thursday in Elkhart, beating Memorial 38-28.

The combination of Josh West and Mason Reber threw the ball all over the yard, recording three touchdown passes each. Jack Stewart caught two of the touchdowns for the Tigers, with Liam Patton, Ely Owen and Kane Dawson also hauling in scores.

Bryce Garner had a two-point conversion for Warsaw, which led 24-6 at the half.

Defensively, Jose Grimmet had an interception and Trevor Albertson was credited with a big defensive night for the Tigers, now 2-2 on the season.

Warsaw will entertain Northridge next week.
