FORT WAYNE — The singers of Heartland are preparing the light-centric program “Light Eternal: Mozart Requiem and More,” which includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s choral masterpiece, the “Requiem Mass in D minor.”

This work is the centerpiece of an afternoon of classical and contemporary masterworks at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. Through the famed “Requiem,” the premiere of “Lux Aeterna” by Lucas Marshall Smith and contemporary pieces by Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen, the singers will sonically explore the transformative “light eternal.”

Heartland is premiering a work by Ohio native Lucas Marshall Smith, a setting of the Lux Aeterna, text. The composer, who enjoys writing for a variety of musical genres ranging from experimental art music to musical theatre, completed the piece in 2013. Lucas Marshall Smith will be presenting an “informance” with Maestro Robert Nance at 3 p.m., prior to the concert at 4 p.m.

Heartland welcomes their new Full Time Vocal Artists to their first performance as members of the Heartland Vocal Artist Family. Both the “informance” and the concert, Light Eternal: Mozart Requiem and More will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 W. Berry St., Fort Wayne. Tickets are $20.

For interviews with Heartland’s Artistic Director, Maestro Robert Nance, contact him at [email protected] or (260) 436-8080.
