BOURBON – They aren’t conference rivals anymore, but Bremen treated Friday night like it has for most of the past 30 years. The lopsided matchup between old Northern State Conference foes had Bremen tilt the scales in its favor with a 42-6 romp over Triton.

The series hasn’t been close in the past 30 years, with Bremen now 27-3 in the past three decades of football against Triton. The game, which was just a one-score game in the second quarter, soon got ugly as Bremen, ranked No. 7 in Class 2-A, dug in and ran all over the Trojans.
Bremen accumulated a whopping 368 yards on the ground and 528 total yards in the game. The game looked like it was going to be over quickly as the Lions scored on its first two possessions. After a touchdown was called back on a penalty, Bremen continued on its first drive that ended with a Brett Louderback nine-yard run. The first play of Bremen’s second drive saw Ryan Topper haul in a 62-yard touchdown catch.
Triton would fight back, and take the ball deep into Bremen territory to open the second quarter. A pass to Drew Stichter took the Trojans to the Bremen 12, but Triton would eventually find itself facing fourth and five from the Bremen seven. Triton found paydirt when Jordan Anderson zipped a pass to Masen Yeo for the seven-yard touchdown. The botched extra point left the game at 14-6.
But the mettle of the Lions had them score on their next two possessions while Triton couldn’t generate any offense. Grant Klockow raced 15 yards for a touchdown, and later added a 41-yard run to get Bremen in business again. The Lions capped the drive with a 19-yard scoring pass to Justin Baker, and all of a sudden it was 28-6 heading into halftime.

“We throw the ball pretty effectively and we set the tone early,” said Bremen head coach Bob Holmes. “After we got out in front, we wanted to shorten the game, shorten the clock and we ran the ball and took care of business on the ground. We like what we are doing offensively, we just have to come out and execute.
“It’s nice to see these guys step up and play well.”
Klockow would take the rock to the house from 56 yards on the third play of the third quarter to settle matters. The junior back had 111 yards on just nine carries. Louderback led Bremen with 117 yards rushing and added the final touchdown from five yards out.
Triton, other than the one drive in the second quarter, did very little to threaten to score. The Trojans managed just 107 total yards on 49 plays, and had less than 60 yards total in the second half. Jeremy Jones had 17 carries for 37 yards to lead the Trojans in a rather paltry stat sheet.
Triton falls to 1-3 on the season and has lost three in a row to state-ranked opponents. Combined, the three ranked teams in Class 1-A No. 7 LaVille, Class 1-A No. 2 Pioneer and Class 2-A No. 7 Bremen are a combined 11-1 to open the year, the only loss was Bremen’s opener against Class 4-A No. 2 Plymouth. The Trojans will visit Culver next week. Bremen (3-1) will entertain New Prairie.
