NORTH WEBSTER — The North Webster Library’s Local History and Genealogy Center will host its Ninth Annual North Webster Cemetery Walk 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.

The library will conduct guided walking tours through the nearby cemetery where costumed enactors will portray individuals buried there. As they tell their life stories, visitors will learn about local history and the people who formed the North Webster community in past times. The tours are free and leave from the library every 15 minutes. Golf cart shuttles will be available for those who have difficulty walking.

Upon arrival, visitors are asked to sign the library’s guest book. To entertain patrons while they wait for their tours to begin, two enactors will be inside the library portraying a couple buried in the Mock Addition Cemetery. There will also be a trio of dulcimer players providing music and free refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library. It’s an entertaining way to spend a Sunday afternoon, enjoying the outdoors and learning some history.

Learn to paint at the library’s Coffee and Canvas 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19. Artist Karla Hayden, owner of The Happy Paint Brush, will teach step-by-step how to paint a pretty fall harvest scene. No special talent is needed, just a willingness to have fun. The workshop costs $18 and includes an 11×14 canvas, painting supplies, and refreshments. Advance registration and pre-payment is needed by Thursday, Sept. 17, to reserve your spot. Stop by the Circulation Desk to sign up and pay.

Have you signed up yet for a library card? September is National Library Card Sign Up Month when libraries across American join together to remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to become lifelong learners. As society and technology has changed, so have libraries.

In addition to traditional books, we also provide access to e-books, streaming videos, DVDs, audio books, internet access, comprehensive databases, and other digital content. If you live in Tippecanoe Township, a North Webster Library card is free. Since we are part of the statewide Evergreen Library System, you can use your North Webster card at over 100 libraries throughout Indiana including many in our immediate area, and we honor other Evergreen library cards as well. To sign up, just stop by the Circulation Desk to fill out an application and start taking advantage of a diversity of resources absolutely free.
