Warsaw SportsTiger Tennis Slides By Ridge

Warsaw pulled a double Tuesday night on the boys tennis circuit, beating the rain and Northridge. The host Tigers dumped the Raiders, 3-2, before the rain dumped on the Tiger Tennis Complex.

Warsaw managed to put together a much needed win at one doubles, with Justin Stout and David Homme withstanding a huge push from Aadarash Patel and Alex Gingerich in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 final. Warsaw also took the No. 2 and No. 3 singles courts. Colton Lind got past Simon Grevengoed 6-4, 6-2 and Andrew Gauger continued to impress at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-1 final on Logan Corns.

Ridge claimed the No. 2 doubles court with the duo of Eric Firstenberger and Drew Wheatley rallying from a 6-2 loss to Hudson Snyder and Hayden Steger in the first set to post a 6-1, 6-3 final in the remaining sets. James Dugle also needed three sets at No. 1 singles to get past Chris Herendeen, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Warsaw JV claimed all four courts against Northridge, with the following results:

#1S: Spencer Britton (W) def. Aman Patel (NR) 6-1, 6-1
#2S: Reuben Williams (W) def. Ethan Siegel (NR) 8-2
#3S: Nolan Knight (W) def. Mitchell Williams (NR) 8-1
#1D: Nick Marsh & Ethan Hoff (W) def. Ethan Siegel & Mitchell Williams (NR) 8-1

The Tigers (5-4, 2-2 NLC) are back in action Thursday evening when they host Fort Wayne Canterbury.

Lady Tigers Hold On, Remain Undefeated

Elkhart Memorial made a charge late, but Warsaw had enough insurance to pick up a 4-3 girls soccer win Tuesday evening in Tiger Town.

A hat trick by Elizabeth Van Wormer was the key for Warsaw. Van Wormer tied the game in the 23rd minute on a pass from Julie Frazzetta, then opened the second half with two goals, both on helpers by Anna Grill. Three minutes after Van Wormer’s third goal, Grill posted a fourth Tiger tally with a winner, assisted by Brenna Shipley.

Elkhart got two of those goals back in the final 20 minutes, but could get no closer as Warsaw closed it out to move to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the NLC.

The Warsaw junior varsity had another hat trick from Katiana Rodriguez, her second in as many matches, to help the Tigers to a 6-1 win over Memorial. Kennedy Patton added a goal and two assists and McKenzie Burns had two goals.

Warsaw stays in the NLC and stays home, welcoming Concord in Thursday for a key conference match.

Ridge Edges Tiger Spikers

In a classic Tuesday night in the shadows of Das Essenhaus, Northridge bested Warsaw in a five-game volleyball thriller. Ridge took the match 25-18, 17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 17-15.

Warsaw were short two key contributors in Peyton Adamiec and Cassie Hoag, but had fantastic contributions from Erin Peugh and Kacy Bragg. Peugh had three aces and gave Warsaw a nice all-around presence while Bragg had big statlines with a whopping 48 assists and added 13 digs.

Lina Meyer gave Warsaw 14 digs and 14 kills, Haley Peterson had 13 kills and Courtney Steffensmeier had two blocks.

The Warsaw JV team defeated Northridge 25-14, 25-17. Alicia Sikora had a nice game with 13 assists, three aces and a pair of digs. Hanna Leach had six kills, Raina Armey had seven digs and Abby Serbousek had five digs, three aces and two kills. The Tiger JV are 9-0 this season.

Warsaw (9-5, 1-2 NLC) will host East Noble Wednesday.
