Almost Half Of U.S. Adults At Risk For Diabetes

CHICAGO — Based on a study done involving in-home exams and questionnaires, new research has indicated that almost half of U.S. adults either have diabetes, or pre-diabetes.

Overall, 12 to 14 percent of adults had diagnosed diabetes in 2012, which is the latest data available.

Almost 40 percent of U.S. adults have pre-diabetes, meaning elevated blood sugar levels that could lead to full-fledged disease. Studies have shown lifestyle changes can delay or prevent diabetes in these people.
