American Girls Pajama Party

Celebrate the beginning of the American Girls Club season at the Nappanee Public Library with an after-hours pajama party on Friday, Sept. 11. Girls in grades one through five are invited to attend the special event, held from 7-11 p.m. Come in your pajamas and slippers and enjoy a night of crafting, snacks and the new American Girl movie, “Grace Stirs Up Success.”

Participants are asked to bring a light gray tee shirt in their size to embellish and wear at the American Girls unit in the Apple Festival Parade the following weekend. Space is limited. Register by Tuesday, Sept. 8, by visiting the Library and completing a permission form at the Kids’ Desk.

The American Girls Club meets once a month at the library during the school year to learn about girls in American history and share other activities such as themed parties, and community service projects. Having an American Girl brand doll is never required for participation. Volunteers are also needed for the pajama party and monthly meetings, which begin in late October. Contact the Library at (574) 773-7919 to apply as a volunteer.

Kid’s Crafts

Make a set of whimsical wind chimes from recycled materials and beads at the library from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Drop in for this special activity in the kid’s department. Craft day is held the second Saturday of each month in conjunction with Nappanee’s city-wide Second Saturday events. For more information, call the library.

Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutter Class

The Makerspace at the Nappanee Public Library continues to grow. One of the latest additions to the collection in The Cube is a Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter and printer. Coveted by DIY experts and crafters, the Cameo uses small blades to cut designs in a wide array of materials. Customize scrapbook pages, cards, apparel, vinyl, glass etching designs and much more.

Paper designer, blogger, and professional crafter, Jill Lebbin, of everydayisanoccasion.com, will teach a class on making a decorative framed monogram with the new machine from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. This will be a great chance for makers to learn the ins and outs of the Cameo and all of its capabilities while making an attractive finished product. The class costs $5 per person and is open to ages 12 and up.

Participants are asked to register by Tuesday, Sept. 8, by calling (574) 773-7919, or online at www.nappaneelibrary.org.

Cover to Cover Book Club

Read along with the Cover to Cover Book Club at the Nappanee Public Library. The club will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, to discuss “The Smartest Kids in the World: and How They Got That Way” by Amanda Ripley

Following three teenagers who chose to spend one school year living in Finland, South Korea and Poland, a literary journalist recounts how attitudes, parenting and rigorous teaching have revolutionized these countries’ education results.

For more information or to reserve a copy of the book, call (574) 773-7919, or go to www.nappaneelibrary.org. The Cover to Cover Book Club meets at the library on the third Tuesday of each month.
