Richard Gene Stavedahl, 82, of Akron, and formerly of Mentone, passed at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1932, in South Bend, to Charles A. and Eva Mae (Blew) Stavedahl. He married on July 27, 1951, in Argos, to Betty Nicodemus, and she preceded April 21, 2004. He then married on July 1, 2005, Frances Childs she survives.
He had been a semi-truck driver for many years. Places he drove for were Nelson Trucking of Burket and Peabody ABC. Richard was a 1951 graduate of Talma High School and a member of the Good Sam Club. Richard and his wife wintered in Ocala, Fla., for many years with their fifth wheel travel trailer.
Richard is survived by wife: Frances Stavedahl, Akron; daughters: Joyce (Gary) Beverly, Claypool; Stacey (Robert) Andrews, Mentone; Johnna (Mark) Andrews, Mentone; sons: Rickey (Jean) Stavedahl, Mentone; Terry (Sandra) Stavedahl, Warsaw; Charles (Deidre) Stavedahl, Warsaw; Roger (Alice) Stavedahl, Warsaw; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers: Larry (Becky) Stavedahl, Mentone; Ted (Becky) Stavedahl, Redding, Calif.; sister: Alice (John) Vining, Glen Ellyn, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law: Tammy and Daryl Wright; grandchildren: Donna; Douglas; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, officiated by Curtis Stavedahl. Burial will be in in Mentone Cemetery, and will take place at a later date.
