Edward A. HoffmanEdward A. Hoffman, 83, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Edward was born May 16, 1932, in Fulton County, to William Foster and Eathel (Drudge) Hoffman. He served with the Army Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base, and lived most of his life in the Claypool area. On July 10, 1954, in Akron, he married Martha L. Wharton.

Edward was a farmer and a gunsmith at Schutz Brothers in North Manchester. He also was a service manager for McKown Cadillac, Smith Ford and Schaefer Ford. He owned and operated Ed’s Repair Shop in Claypool and was a clerk and mechanic for the United Telephone garage in Warsaw. Ed retired from Biomet.

He was a 50 year member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge and Warsaw Order of the Eastern Star. He was past master of Sidney Masonic Lodge and former member of Akron Masonic Lodge. Ed was a member of Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine and Fort Wayne Scottish Rite. He also held a membership in the American Legion Post #49 and the NRA. He was a member of Gulf Shores (Alabama) United Methodist Church and for many years, he was also the emcee for the church’s Snowbird Club. Many vacations were spent working with various mission projects in Haiti. Edward was a professional dance roller skater where he won Gold Medal Skater. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed fishing and making fishing flies. Edward enjoyed shooting and participated in shooting contests. He also enjoyed playing guitars.

Edward will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family, including Martha, his wife of 61 years; two daughters: Kathy R. (William) Hamman, Winona Lake; and Michelle S. (Don) Hirschaut, Aptos, Calif.; son: Rick Hoffman, Rochester; four grandchildren: Jay Hamman, Carbondale, Ill.; Sara (Hamman) McConnell, Warsaw; Meridith Hirschaut, Chico, Calif.; and Nathan Hirschaut, Aptos, Calif.; one great-grandson: William Isaac McConnell; and a sister: Emogene Daine, Rochester. Edward’s three brothers: Wayne Hoffman; Earl Hoffman; and Rev. Elvin Hoffman, preceded him in death.

Family and friends will come together for a time of sharing in support of each other from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A Masonic Memorial Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. There will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the funeral. A service celebrating Edward’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the funeral home. Officiating will be Clark Shepherd, founder of A.C.T.S. (Allowing Christ to Shine – an organization dedicated to helping the children of Haiti).

Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, where there will be military graveside honors conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post No. 1126.

The family has asked that gifts in Edward’s memory be directed to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, Chicago, Ill.
