NEW YORK — Several activist groups are planning a secession rally in upstate N.Y. this weekend, in the hopes of creating its own state, New Amsterdam.

The reasoning for this secession rally comes down to the southern part of N.Y. dominating the upper half politically.

“Downstate has dominated Upstate for decades and Upstate has no future in a state controlled by New York City’s needs and desires,” said the Shooters Committee on Public Education said in a press release.

Changes, however, are unlikely to occur soon, as the earliest it could be voted on is 2017. N.Y. is not the first state to consider seceding, as well, as residents in Fla., Texas and Colo., have also considered the idea.
