Looking for a fun after school activity for the kids? Bring them to Crafts and Stories every Tuesday after school from 4-5 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 1. The kids make crafts while listening to staff read stories. It was such a popular program last school year that crafts and stories has been expanded to include children in kindergarten up through fifth grade. No registration is needed. Children can come every week or whenever it fits into their schedule. We ask that parents remain in the library during this time.

While kids unwind from school with crafts and stories, adults can learn to unwind through Guided Meditation taught by Pirkko Miller 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2. The first Wednesday each month, Miller teaches meditation techniques and how to achieve the benefits of meditation to the mind, body, and spirit. This monthly class is free, but pre-registration is needed. You can sign up at the circulation desk or call (574) 834-7122.

Learn the benefits of making your own greeting cards at the Make and Take Card Class 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. Jan Biehl of Stamp ‘N Toys will show you how to create original greeting cards in this hands-on workshop. The class costs $7 and includes all your supplies, plus you get to take home all the cards you make in class. Pre-registration is needed. Stop by the circulation desk to register or call (574) 834-7122.

Did you know kids can get help with homework on the library’s website? Just go to www.nweb.lib.in.us, click on the “youth resources tab” at the top of the page, then click on the “homework help link” on the right. There you can link to fun and interesting websites that cover all kinds of subjects including grammar, geography, history, math, science and many others. Homework help is available for students of all ages from elementary school through high school. You don’t even need a library card to utilize it.

High school and college students can access college prep and career tools through Inspire Databases available on the library’s website. Just click on the “research tools tab” at the top of the home page, click on “Inspire Database,” and then click on “testing and education reference center.” There you will find online practice tests and courses, study materials, college and scholarship information, resume building helps, career modules and much more. Your library is available to you 24/7 at www.nweb.lib.in.us.
