Mary Elizabeth Jewell-Henderson, 93, of Wabash, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at Autumn Ridge Healthcare Center in Wabash. She was born to the late Melvin Crockett and Hattie Mae (Burke) VanDyke on June 27, 1922, in Tazewell County, Va.
Mary married John Luke Jewell on Dec. 3, 1938, he passed away on July 5, 1958; then she married Marshall Covert Henderson on Oct. 14, 1959, he passed away on May 12, 1977. She was the Christian Education Director for the Wabash Presbyterian Church for many years. She retired from Social Services at Wabash County Hospital. She was a member of Wabash Presbyterian Church of Wabash.
She is survived by her children: Patricia A. (James) Fulwider, Leesburg; Ruby K. Hendrix, Peru; Rita J. Richardson, Phoenix, Ariz.; Marsha J. Weinberg, Germantown, Md.; Stephen C. (Sue) Henderson, Wabash; and David K. (Debbie) Henderson, Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren: Chris E. (Kelli) Armie, Milford; Jill E. (Richard) Chagnon, Poway, Calif.; Phillip M. Armie, Warsaw; Max E. Fulwider, Nashville, Tenn.; John C. Hendrix, Wabash; B. Jay (Beth) Hendrix, Schaumburg, Ill.; Jerry W. Hendrix, Claypool; Vanita M. Bell, Bloomington; Valerie M. (Cary Hoepker) Bell, Phoenix, Ariz.; D. Kent (Katie Gavaldon) Bell, Venice, Calif.; Kent (Julie) Henderson, Wabash; Kelli (Eloise Lindborg) Henderson, Seattle, Wash.; Krys Ecklebarger, Wabash; Mark Henderson, Washington D.C.; Brian (Michele) Henderson, Indianapolis; and Carolyn Henderson, Atlanta, Ga.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Amanda Armie, Mesa, Ariz.; Anthony Wooten, Mesa, Ariz.; Elizabeth Chagnon, Washington D.C.; Peter Chagnon, Northridge, Calif.; Roger Chagnon, San Diego, Calif.; Anthony (Jessica) Minnix, Fort Wayne; Stevi (Josh Auer) Coffin, Syracuse; Luke Armie, Warsaw; Nola Fulwider, Nashville, Tenn.; Kyle Hendrix, Chicago, Ill.; Sara (Geoff) Klein, Santa Monica, Calif.; Jerry Hendrix Jr., Claypool; Shanna Hendrix, Claypool; Andrew Bell, Bloomington; Shay Unger, Bloomington; Carli Henderson; and Cody Henderson, both of Wabash; Emily Ecklebarger, Erin Ecklebarger, and Evan Ecklebarger, all of Wabash; great-great-grandchildren: Addison Wooten, Mesa, Ariz.; Alyssa Minnix, Syracuse; Isabella Minnix, Fort Wayne; Ava Minnix, Fort Wayne; Jace Coffin, Syracuse; Noah Coffin-Auer, Syracuse; and many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren: Matthew J. Weinberg and Samuel P. Fulwider.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 15, at Wabash Presbyterian Church, Wabash, with Rev. Jonathan Cornell officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Calling hours for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday, Aug. 15.
