OHIO — Evenflo has unveiled a new car seat that the company hopes will help save the lives of children by preventing them from being left inside a hot vehicle.
The new car seat is called the Evenflo Embrace DLX and comes equipped with sensor-safe technology that includes a receiver which plugs into the on-board diagnostic port under the driver side dashboard. The receiver links with a sensor in the chest clip of the car seat.
Once a child is clipped into the seat and the car begins moving, an electronic link is established. When the car’s ignition is turned off, the sensor immediately gives off an alert sound.
The idea is that the alert tones will remind the driver of the child in the back seat, so that they don’t accidentally leave the infant in the car. The alert will also let the driver know if the child unbuckles the restraint clip while the car is in motion.
The car seat costs approximately $150 and is available online from Walmart beginning Friday, July 24. It will be in stores next month.
