David Lee Schrimsher, 62, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Culver, went peacefully home to Christ at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, with his wife of 36 years by his side. He died at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, after a long illness.

He was born to Samuel I. and Betty J. Schrimsher on April 9, 1953, in Culver, and he graduated from Culver High School in 1971. David married the love of his life, Roberta “Bobbi” Schrimsher on June 30, 1979. They had two children together: Craig (Shelly) Schrimsher; and Caitlin Schrimsher. Additionally, he was given six wonderful grandchildren: Ches; Charlie; and Eleanor Schrimsher; and Summer; Holly; and Olive Good, all of Culver.

He worked for 22 years as a Union Machine Repairman at the former LOB-DEL Emory factory in Argos, IN, drove semi for several years afterwards, and lastly for RBC in Plymouth, before he was disabled by illness. He was baptized at the Burr Oak Church of God in 1993, and his faith grew stronger with each passing year.

David fought a battle with liver (and later kidney) disease, and received a liver transplant in March, 2010. He fought relentlessly for another 5 years while awaiting a second transplant, but his body eventually could not withstand the effects of the illness. During this time he saw four of his grandchildren born, was able to spend quality time with all six of them, and continually gained strength from their love and presence. Everyone close to him called him “Superman” because of his unrelenting strength and perseverance through his struggles with health.

In addition to his wife; children; and grandchildren; David leaves behind his father: Sam (Nancy) Schrimsher, Alba, Texas; brothers: Rex (Jean) Schrimsher, Plymouth; and Roy (Tracy) Schrimsher, Granger. Also special to him was his loving mother-in-law: Rosemary Weaver; his uncle: Glen Schrimsher; and the sister he never had: Cheryl (Al Nyby) Schrimsher, all of Culver. David also leaves behind many nephews; nieces; aunts; uncles; and cousins; who all brought joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Betty J. (Overmyer) Schrimsher; brothers: Jerry; and Dennis Schrimsher; his father-in-law: Allen Weaver; and his “special” aunt: Eunice Schrimsher.

A time of remembrance and celebration will be held at the Culver Depot from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, July 20. Informal attire is encouraged. He and his family are eternally grateful  to the wonderful care that he received as a patient at IU Hospital  and in lieu of flowers are requesting that donations by check be made to the Methodist Health Foundation, in memory of David Schrimsher, Indianapolis. His ashes will be interred at a later date during a private ceremony. Odom Funeral home will be handling the services.
