WINONA LAKE – It’s a run unlike nearly anything else coming to the area.
The Animal Welfare League of Warsaw is hosting its first-ever 5K-9 road race. The run is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Winona Lake Park. The cost per person is $25 and runners will receive a free T-shirt for participating. Proceeds from the event will be used to help build a new facility for the Animal Welfare League.
Participants can run or walk the course, and the option is open to run or walk with your dogs. Race organizers, along with the community, ask that those bringing their dogs should be responsible for their dogs and all that nature intends.
Registration in advance can be made at 5k9race.com or done July 12 at Winona Lake Park between 5:30-6 p.m.
Darla McCammon, executive director of the Animal Welfare League, said, “John (Kuhn, of the KYLA) is doing a great job of organizing the event and Carlee (Heald) will be on hand to help him. We will also have our staff and other volunteers at the event with some of our pets that are available for adoption. We are proud of this new opportunity for our community to have a good time and yet help us raise funds for our new building project.”
