Zoey Islas, 4, North High Street, Silver Lake, suffered a contusion/bruise to the head, after she stepped out in front of a car Friday evening on West Market Street, near South Pine Street, Warsaw. The 4-year-old was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital.

The accident occurred at 7:24 p.m.

John K. Churchill, 61, West Market Street, Warsaw, told police he had just left his residence and was approaching the intersection of Pine Street, when a small female child stepped out from a bush on to the roadway. He attempted to stop but was unable to avoid hitting the child.

Witnesses said they saw the child look for traffic and after one vehicle passed, she walked north into the road without looking again and was struck.

Damage to Churchill’s vehicle was under $750.

Warsaw Police investigated, assisted by Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
