Take a step back in time to the 1950s at Amish Acres Round Barn Theatre and enjoy “Grease,” through July 19.

As the production actually gets underway, members of the cast visit with the audience as they would with classmates during a class reunion. Miss Lynch informed the woman beside me that she really liked her outfit! As the curtain opens, members of the Rydell High School class of 1959 are about to enjoy their 10-year reunion. Soon, however, the clock is turned back. They are all seniors, and the rest of the production follows them through this very special year of high school.

Creating a laugh a minute when he is on stage is Jerry O’Boyle as Miss Lynch. He was a regular on the Amish Acres stage a number of years ago, and the audience is delighted to see him back. He turns in his usual splendid performance.

Sandy Dumbrowski (Katie Kuehner) and Danny Zuko (Tyler Whiteman) fell in love when they spent the summer together on the beach. He thought she was going to a Catholic high school, but found out there was a change of plans and there she is at Rydell. The duo turns in first-class performances as the teens who can’t decide if they are a couple or not. They spend most of the musical trying to gain approval their peers, knowing they have special feelings for one another but trying to understand each other’s different standard of conduct. She doesn’t smoke. She doesn’t drink. She’s sweet. She’s innocent. He, on the other hand is out to impress the other guys at the school that’s he’s a man’s man. He is a greaser and a member of the Burger Palace Boys.

Sandy is befriended by the Pink Ladies. She has problems with some of their actions. Although “Grease” can be a bit raunchy at times due to the subject matter, it’s handled with care on the Amish Acres stage. No one should be offended.

Other teens are Patty Simcox (Katie Post), Eugene Florcryk (Tim Becze), Jan (MoMo Lamping), Marty (Sara Bayliss), Betty Rizzo (Harli Cooper), Dooley (Anthony Christopher Milfelt), Roger (Travis Brid), Kenickie (A.J. Ackleson), Sonny La Tierri (T.J. Besler) and Frency (Haley Jane Schafer) and Cha-Cha DiGregorio (Sara Drinkwine). Ryan A. Schislelr is Vince Fontaine and Travis Smith is Teen Angel. All turn in fantastic performances.

The ladies sing of “Freddy My Love,” while the guys sing about a car, “Greased Lightnin.’” Other songs that catch the audience’s attention are “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night,” and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Queen.” Each tells its own story.

A tip of the hat to the production crew. This show is a winner.

The show is a look back at the dress, manners, morals and music of teens shortly after the rock and roll era began. It’s a must see. For tickets call the box office at (800) 800-4942 extension 2 or online at AmishAcres.com.
