The kids will learn that it rocks to read at the “Rockin’ and Reading” concert 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, as family musician Leonardo performs a high energy, one man band performance. The show takes place in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. All ages are welcome. If your child is participating in the Summer Reading Club, be sure they bring their reading passport to get stamped for extra credit toward prizes.

Bring the family to a free movie matinee Thursday, June 25, with two showings at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the library meeting room. Showing is a 2014 musical comedy about a foster kid who sees her life change when a business tycoon and New York mayoral candidate makes a thinly veiled campaign move and takes her in. The movie is rated PG and runs 118 minutes. Bring beverages to drink, because there will be plenty of free popcorn.

Friday Family Food and Fun will be the next day Friday, June 26, with a choice of three time sessions at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Kids will have fun with super hero costumes as they move through four stations of activities, crafts, and snacks. If you haven’t signed your child up yet, do so right away, because pre-registration is required to participate. Stop by the Youth Services Desk or call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202 to reserve a spot for your child.

The adults will have their own fun with food 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, during Lose It at The Library when certified chef Joseph Toscano speaks to the weight loss support group about “Portioning and Eating Behavior.” In his presentation, he will talk about making healthy and economical food choices as well as the psychological aspect of food. Tuscano has 22 years of food service experience and is owner of Tuscano Catering and Lunch Delivery. He is also a certified instructor for ServSafe, a food safety training and certificate program. The program is free and opened to the public.

Earlier in the day, Voyager Book Club will meet at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, to discuss science fiction books. If you have read a good one recently, come and join in the discussion. You will also learn about other good sci-fi books that others have read.

The North Webster Hiking Club wraps up the week with two hikes Friday morning, June 26 followed by a second hike Saturday morning, June 27. On Friday, the group leaves from the library 7:15 a.m. to hike the Dygert Nature Preserve in Whitley County. The Saturday hike leaves at 8:30 a.m. to hike the Edna Spurgeon Nature Preserve near Ligonier. Travel to the hiking destinations will be by carpool with passengers in each car sharing gas expense. If you enjoy walking and nature, come along and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow hikers.

Did you know the library has free magazines available for the taking? Check out the free magazine rack for a variety of periodicals including a variety of children’s magazines. The free magazines are available near the library’s south entrance.
