Mini 4-H Day Campers

The Elkhart County 4-H program held its Mini 4-H Day Camp on Wednesday, June 10th, at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen. The theme was “The Old West”. It was a free day camp where Mini 4-H’ers received a tour of the important locations on the fairgrounds, played recreational games with “Western” flavor, and participated in classes related to 4-H projects. For example, we had a crafts session where Mini 4-H’ers decorated white bandanas and learned about the Wearable Art project. They also watched 4-H’ers from the Elkhart County 4-H Saddle Club explain Western style riding and perform some demonstrations on their horses.

The event was from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and included a lunch of baked beans and hotdogs with watermelon and cowboy hat shaped cookies. We finished the event with our “Color Me Green” run which included distributing free t-shirts and sunglasses to each Mini 4-H’er and letting them dash 100 yards across a grass field to the finish line, where they were bombarded with green powder. It was a lot of fun.

The purpose of the Mini 4-H Day Camp was to introduce Mini 4-H’ers and families to the 4-H program. It was a tremendous success that was only possible because of the incredible support of 4-H Junior Leaders, 4-H Volunteers, and the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds.
