kosciusko countyBrook Pointe Inn will be expanding operations. Approval was given by the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, June 9, in Warsaw.

Matt Sandy, assistant planning director for the county, noted Brook Pointe was given an exception by the BZA back in the 1990s for its master plan. The most recent petition asked for an exception to alter the previously granted exception by allowing the expansion of hotel use by allowing the adoption of a master plan including a maintenance building, 26 cabins, additions to the hotel, a new convention center and other accessories and amenities. The property is located on the north side of CR 1200N at the intersection with Syracuse-Webster Road, more commonly known as the “Crazy Corners” intersection, in Turkey Creek Township.

Sandy noted Brook Pointe plans to install the cabins as part of the more short term plan. The cabins will be used by those staying in the area for a few days. Major landscaping of the property will also occur. A new convention center and improvements to the hotel are more long term, he added.

One remonstrator expressed concerns about water drainage and the speed limit along the access road.

In other business, Clunette Elevator was granted an exception to construct two fertilizer tanks and a load pad and to allow future expansion for both grain and fertilizer operations on CR 600N, west of CR 400W in Prairie Township.

Other agenda items included:

• Dawn Barnes’ petition was tabled for another month as she has not been able to obtain a previously requested survey. She is seeking to have a deck built on her residence, as well as an addition to the residence, on EMS B18 Lane, west of SR 13 in Tippecanoe Township.

• Linda Kramer was granted a variance to split a lot and combine it with two other lots to create an undersized tract of ground on EMS T34B Lane in the Old Mill Place addition in Plain Township. The newly created tract must be combined with the other two lots and can’t be sold separately, and the sewer line must be installed correctly.

• Cathy Young was granted an exception for a cleaning business in a building formerly used by Milestone Construction on EMS D24 Lane at Dewart Lake near the public launch in Van Buren Township.

• Kevin and Candy Pelz were granted a variance to allow a guest residence to remain as combined on the east side of Rumpelstiltskin Drive, south of Rainbow Lane in Turkey Creek Township.

• Brunnado Holdings was granted an exception to construct an egg processing plant on the west side of Parks Schram Road, south of CR 100N in Harrison Township. Proper access must be provided to the site.

• Richard Wolfe was granted a variance to allow a residence addition to remain as placed on Myrtle Glen Road at the intersection with Pleasant Street in Silver Lake.

• Kosciusko County ABATE was granted an exception to allow commercial recreation, the “Hawg Waller” camping, concert and public event, for one year on the south side of Old US 30, east of CR 450E in Washington Township.

• Max Zawada was granted a variance to permit the construction of a residence addition on CR 900E at the intersection with EMS W23 Lane in Tippecanoe Township.
