Nancy J. Bannon, 80, passed away Wednesday morning in Miller’s Merry Manor following an unexpected illness. Nancy cared for the community of Plymouth many years as a registered nurse with the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Nancy’s life began on the south side of Chicago, Ill., Nov. 24, 1934, the daughter of Oscar and Mae (Kammeraad) Gullans. She graduated from Fenger High School and later the South Bend Memorial School of Nursing.

On June 21, 1954, in Chicago, Ill., she became the bride of James M. Campbell. The young couple moved to the small southern Ill. community of Neoga where Jim became pastor of the Presbyterian Church. There they would welcome first born Deborah J. They soon found their way to Croswell, Mich. and the family grew to include Teresa L. and James R. They arrived in Plymouth in 1962 and it quickly became home.

Nancy was involved in the lives of her children and became active in the Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls organization as a group leader and then director helping shape many young lives teaching the motto of Work, Health and Love.

She was active in the Plymouth First Presbyterian Church, the American Red Cross, Order of the Eastern Star – Chapter 26 and P.E.O. Nancy enjoyed time spent singing in the Marshall County Women’s Chorus – Melody Makers.

On Nov. 4, 1989, she married Bernard A. “Barney” Bannon and shared many things together including their love of Notre Dame Irish football. He would precede her in death on May 1, 2002.

Nancy was given the gift of saying goodbye to her loving family members. They are: Deborah J. Hecht, Plymouth; and her family: Brandon (Wendy) Jackson; and children: Jem; and Jet, Honolulu, Hawaii; Christopher (Kimberlee) Jackson; and children: Christopher James; Genevieve Lee; and Lilianna Marie, Chula Vista, Calif.; and Jennifer Jackson (Melanie Lynn), Kalamazoo, Mich; Teresa Campbell; and sons: Jason (Jenifer) Buchtel; and Justin Buchtel, all of Chandler, Ariz.; and James Russell Campbell, Plymouth.

Stepchildren include: Patrick Bannon; Terry (Roxanne) Bannon; and their sons: Mackin; Riley; and Nancy Bannon (deceased); and her children: Sean; and Rory.

She was also preceded in death by a sister: June Bowman; and brothers: Harry; Roger; and John Gullans.

Family and friends will gather at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, June 7, to celebrate Nancy’s life. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star will provide a memorial rite at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, in the First Presbyterian Church, Plymouth, with Rev. Les Johnson officiating, and tribute by the Melody Makers. Calling will continue at the church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.

Family and friends will gather at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home 1100 N. Michigan St, Plymouth on Sunday, June 7th from 2 – 4 p.m. to celebrate Nancy’s life. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star will provide a memorial rite at 4 p.m.

Inurnment will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery Columbarium.
