David Lee Friermood, 72, of North Manchester, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Peabody Healthcare in North Manchester. He was born May 31, 1942, in Swayzee, to Paul E. and Martha E. (Studebaker) Friermood.
David was a 1961 graduate of Swayzee High School and attended the Marion Business College two years. He was the head of Campus Facilities and Setup for Manchester University 45 years, and also worked part time for Manchester Community Schools. David was a member and deacon at the Congregational Christian Church several years, and was awarded Deacon Emeritus on Easter 2014. He was very involved with the church and Manchester Unviersity, and has a building at the university named after him, the David L. Friermood Hall of Storage. He enjoyed playing the piano, music, and collecting antiques. David was a lover of Stineway pianos.
He is survived by his brother: James A. (Jane) Friermood, Huntington; niece: Kristin (Chris) Wheeler; and nephew: Brad Friermood, both of Rio Vista, Texas; great-nephews: Jake Wheeler; Travis Friermood; and Kane Friermood, all of Rio Vista, Texas; and a huge family of boys at Manchester University.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, with Pastors J.P. Freeman and Sebrina Cline officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Preferred memorials are the David L. Friermood Endowed Scholarship Fund, Manchester University, or the Wabash County Cancer Society.
