Whitko Sports Wrap – May 19
The Whitko softball team used one big inning to turn back Lakeland 9-5 in prep action Tuesday night in South Whitley.
The host Wildcats plated seven runs in the sixth inning to come up with the non-conference win.
Hanna Yohe delivered the big hit in the key frame for the winners with a bases-clearing triple.
Tori Silveus was the starting pitcher and Aly Nicodemus earned the win in relief for the Wildcats.
Whitko will play at conference foe Tippecanoe Valley on Wednesday evening.
JV Baseball Team Comes Up Short
The Whitko junior varsity baseball team dropped a 9-7 final at Peru.
River West had a big night by going 4-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI to lead Whitko.
Roger Helblig had a double and a triple, while Brandon Fugate, Reed Brace and Zach Hewitt each had two hits. Hewitt took the pitching loss, despite allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts in five innings of work.
Whitko, now 15-7, will play Fort Wayne South on Wednesday at Fort Wayne Elmhurst.
