WARSAW – It was just another day at the office for the Warsaw girls track and field team. The Lady Tigers claimed their ninth consecutive sectional team title at Tuesday’s 2015 Warsaw Girls Track and Field Sectional Meet with a team score of 171 points, Elkhart Memorial took second with a score of 90.5.

The Lady Tigers won eight of the evening’s 16 events, placed second in six and third in three. It was a complete monopoly for Warsaw and you better believe that it was fun.

“This is a fun time of year,” began Warsaw head coach Scott Erba. “You put all the work in looking back to December, January, February. Indoor meets. Then you finally get outside and, you hope it’s warmer, but this is what the girls have been working towards.”

In the field or on the track, Warsaw was always in the zone. The first win of the night for Warsaw came in the 4 X 100 relay. The team of Mariah Harter, Sam Alexander, Abbi Curtis and Audrey Rich clocked in at 49.64, beating Fairfield’s time of 50.34.

Rich would later grab a first place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.94. Alexander also claimed first in the long jump, recording a distance of 17-2.75, nearly a foot further than second place.

Nicole Eckert gave Warsaw another blue ribbon by running to a 45.87 finish in the 300 meter hurdles, well ahead of the second place time of 49.24.

Sophomore Allison Miller took first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:26.62. The Lady Tigers final win of the night came with the 4 X 400 relay. Eckert, Rich, Jazzmine Brown and Brooke Rhodes teammed up to record a 4:09.63. Earlier in the meet Brown was crowned sectional champion in the high jump with her final mark of 5-2.

Rebecca Lemon had a milestone moment on her way to a sectional title at pole vault as she reached an even 10 feet to give Warsaw yet another first place finish.

Warsaw also saw girls place second in the 4 X 800 relay (Miller, Rhodes, Charlene Orr, Mallory Hooks), 100 meter dash (Harter), 400 meter dash (Rhodes), 800 meter run (Anna Craig), high jump (Alexie Day) and 1600 meter run (Mia Beckham).

The Tigers also got third-place performances from Curtis (100), Alexander (200) and Shunterra Davis (long jump).

“We mapped out what would be our best case scenario coming into tonight and we about hit it on every stride,” Erba said. “We’re real excited about going into the regional.

“Almost every girl that competed today will be moving on and competing in some capacity at the regional. That’s really a great thing to still have a big team atmosphere and after what we saw tonight, we feel really good about having a positive outlook for regional.”

This ninth straight title for Warsaw gives the Lady Tigers 16 total team titles in girls track and moves them into a ninth place tie with Bloomington North and Bloomington South for most all-time.

Warsaw will advance to its own regional on Tuesday evening in hopes of grabbing a three-peat after winning the title in both 2013 and 2014.
